ResumoAbstract Back Orifice 2000 (BO2K) is a backdoor program that has been designed for misuse and attack. It was released in July at DefCon VII, a computer hacker convention that was held in Las Vegas, Nevada. A computer hacker organization that calls itself The Cult Of The Dead Cow claims credit for developing and releasing BO2K. BO2K is a refinement of an earlier pro-gram with a similar name. BO2K takes the form of a cli-ent/server application that controls an information-processing application with a fixed Internet Protocol (IP) ad-dress remotely without the knowledge of either the responsi-ble system administrators or the affected end users. Once it has been installed, BO2K gathers information, performs sys-tem commands, reconfigures machines, and redirects network traffic without authorized access.
