Resumo

Sphagnum portoricense Hampe, Leucobryum martianum (Hornsch.) Hampe ex C. Miall., and Hemiragis aurea (P. Beauv.) Ren. & Card. are reported for the first time in Puerto Rico from localities outside the Sierra de Luquillo. Recently, while in Puerto Rico to collect orchids, William R. Stimson made a small collection of mosses. He tried to collect in all of the major mountainous regions of the island. A check with Crum and Steere (1957) and the specimens in Duke Herbarium showed that all his collections are common species in Puerto Rico, but four of them appear to be new locality records for the island. These records are all outside the Sierra de Luquillo. The new locality records are: Sphagnum portoricense from the Reserva Forestal de Carite, Leucobryum martianum from the Reserva Forestal de Maricao and the Reserva Forestal de Toro Negro, and Hemiragis aurea from the Reserva Forestal de Maricao. The moss flora of Puerto Rico is well known, but these records indicate that more collecting is needed in areas outside the Luquillo Mountains in order to gain a better knowledge of the distribution of species within the island and to search for species new to the island. Stimson's collection (DUKE) is listed below with his collection numbers in italics.
