Resumo

In aqueous media bilirubin monoglucuronide is subject to isomerisation. In this reaction two moles bilirubin monoglucuronide are converted into one mole bilirubin and one mole bilirubin diglucuronide. Mainly the IIIα and IXα isomers of bilirubin were formed. The tetrapyrrole moiety of bilirubin diglucuronide formed in this reaction had mainly the XIIIα and IXα structure. Oxygen enhanced the reaction. A free radical chain mechanism is the most likely process explaining our results.
