Resumo

Two cases of hydrogen sulfide poisoning in sewer workers are described. Of the two victims, one was dead on arrival; the other was successfully treated. Differentiation of hydrogen sulfide poisoning is aided by the fact that the presence of hydrogen sulfide will cause coins to turn black. The treatment of this unusual problem involves the use of nitrites to produce methemoglobinemia.
