Resumo

The coulostatic method was applied to determining Tafel slopes of corrosion reaction, where a known amount of charge was supplied to the test piece, and the over-voltage decay curve recorded was analysed to obtain Tafel slopes. In this study, a new equation was derived for the Tafel slope analysis. It was examined by obtaining Tafel slopes for an actual corrosion system of iron in 1N H2SO4 and applied to mild steels in distilled water. The coulostatic method, developed in this study, can be useful without ohmic drop correction, even in a high impedance solution. The time needed for the measurement is considerably shorter, compared to the usual electrochemical method.
