Resumo

Argilés recently reviewed1 some of the evidence supporting the concept that acetone is an intermediate in the conversion of fat to carbohydrate. He dealt with the conversion of acetone to glucose via lactate and its metabolic equivalent, pyruvate. He did not discuss the large body of evidence showing that the carbons from acetone are also incorporated into glucose via acetate. This is important in interpreting studies of the role of acetone in glucose formation, and is the subject of this review.
