ResumoSeveral studies have shown that the determination of fecal az-antitrypsin is a valuable indicator of intestinal protein loss. l Compared with conventional techniques for the diagnosis of protein-losing enteropathy, such as the 5tCrlabeled albumin excretion test, the measurement of FA1-AT has the advantage of being safe, nonisotopic, and easily done. Until now, most authors have determined FA-1-AT on lyophilized stools following the technique described by Crossley and Elliot. 2 We evaluated the validity of FA1-AT measurement on nondried rather than lyophilized stools, and report the results of FA-1-AT determination on nondried specimens from a large group of children with various intestinal diseases.
