This article documents the recent upsurge of interest in English Premier League (EPL) football in one village in rural South‐western Uganda. It argues that this new fandom stems from the media reforms that were introduced in Uganda after 1986, and that the craze has already produced a range of unexpected, and in some ways profound, social effects.
