ResumoFrom the total municipal solid waste, 13,1% is paper (IBGE, 2010a).Such a considerable percentage raise questions about the destination of this material, known for its life cycle even after disposal.The present study aimed to present the modeling, development and validation of a computer simulation model of paper recycling from municipal waste, in order to identify the possible water and energy saving, besides the reduction of tree cutting.As results, according to estimates highlighted in the theoretical framework, the highest recycling rate of each paper type provides considerable and positive rates in the three elements analyzed.Moreover, this paper fulfills its purpose of serving as a source of information for environmental managers who have participated in the model validation process.
