ResumoAbstract The γ-spectrum following the decay MN 56 →Fe 56 was measured with a 22.8 cm ⊘ × 10.2 cm and a 6.4 cm ⊘ × 5.1 cm NaI(TI)-scintillation spectrometer. The half-life of the β-decay Mn 56 →Fe 56 was found to be T 1 2 = 2.55±0.05 h . We have looked for a 4 + level in Fe 56 which is populated by Co 56 (4 + ), but not by Mn 56 (3 + ). For the possible β-transition Mn 56 (3 + ) → Fe 56 (4 + ) we find the limit log ƒ > 10 . The method of sum-coincidence spectroscopy has been extended to the measurement of β- and γ-branching ratios. We find for the γ-ray intensity ratios in Fe 56 : W (2.67 MeV)/ W (1.80 MeV) = 0.0200±0.0037, W (3.00 MeV)/ W (2.11 MeV) = 0.033±0.007, W (3.38 MeV)/ W (2.52 MeV) = 0.18±0.04. The results for the β-ray intensity ratios of the transition Mn 56 →Fe 56 are: W (0.718 MeV)/ W (1.028 MeV) = 0.56±0.09, W (0.300 MeV)/ W (0.718 MeV) = 0.063±0.018, W (0.300 MeV)/ W (1.028 MeV) = 0.018±0.018.
