The differential intensity of polarized light scattered from a single polystyrene latex sphere has been measured for the first time. Theoretical analysis of the measured intensities yielded values of the refractive index and size with relative errors of less than 1%. This optical size determination is in significant disagreement with values quoted by the manufacturer.
