ResumoAbstract Baclofen (Lioresal, Ciba) has recently been shown to be significantly more effective than placebo in the treatment of spasticity due to lesions in the spinal cord. A double-blind controlled trial of baclofen against diazepam was carried out at two dose levels and this showed no significant difference between the two drugs. There was, however, a tendency in favour of baclofen, particularly in higher doses. In addition a significant difference in response to baclofen was associated with the weight of patients; this association was not found when they were taking diazepam.
