Primary hyperglyceridemia is currently differentiated into the "fat-induced," the "carbohydrate-induced," and the "mixed" forms, according to the manner in which the patient's plasma triglyceride level changes with varying proportions of fats and carbohydrates in the diet (1-4). A number of investigators (5-8) have shown that hyperglyceridemia can be induced in normal subjects and greatly exaggerated in hyperglyceridemic patients by high carbohydrate diets. However, it is well-known that people of the underdeveloped areas of the world, subsisting on high carbohydrate diets, apparently do not develop hyperglyceridemia. Up to the...References1.
