ResumoThe intersection of text, culture, and identity is a site of much contemporary theory and research, especially in the critique of Disney organizational stories. This essay, however, moves outside the Disney organization to the class of stories labeled urban legends—the stories we hear, tell, and believe of Walt Disney and his company's work. These legends perform identity work, negotiating adult realities with adolescent fantasies, and parallel both J. M. Barrie and Walt Disney's Peter Pan in their constructions of gender, work, and sexuality. Tinker Bell, a Barrie creation and Disney icon, flits throughout this essay and lites at the author's own intersection of text, culture, and identity.
