ResumoA careful search has been made for lines of elements heavier than the iron peak in the spectrum of Canopus, mainly using high signal-to-noise spectra in the near ultraviolet. The abundances of 21 heavy r- and s-process elements in Canopus have been determined from the equivalent widths of the lines identified. The results show that Canopus has an essentially solar composition for both r- and s-process heavy elements. Only for molybdenum and possibly niobium were deficiencies relative to the solar abundances found which are larger than can be explained by the estimated random errors of this analysis.
