ResumoIncubation in vitro of segments and everted sacs of hamster small intestine have been used to study the mode of absorption of l-glucose. By all current criteria, l-glucose is a substrate of the intestinal transport system for d-glucose. We have examined accumulation against a concentration gradient, substrate inhibition, phlorizin sensitivity, Na+ dependence, energy dependence and counterflow. The estimated Km value for l-glucose is 65 mM.
