ResumoDr. Green’s essay is timely and hopefully will stimulate a productive dialogue between trauma surgery and emergency medicine to ensure optimal care of the seriously injured patient. As chief of trauma services at the prototypic Knife and Gun Club for nearly 30 years, I have had the distinct pleasure of working closely with emergency physicians. My experience was initiated with the venerable Peter Rosen, who remains an admired colleague and priceless friend. I concur it is time to reassess when the surgeon must be present in the emergency department (ED) for trauma evaluations and management and offer the following surgical perspective.
