Diet of CieMa fIIonoeulus (Bloch & Schneider) (Osteichthyes, Cichlidae) in Lajes' Reservoir, Rio de Ja neiro, Brazil.The diet of Cichla monoculus (Bloch & Schneider, 1801) in Lajes's Reservoir, a major impoundment in Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, was assessed, trom tishes collected in 1994Brazil, was assessed, trom tishes collected in , 1996Brazil, was assessed, trom tishes collected in and 1999Brazil, was assessed, trom tishes collected in /2000.Gut contents in individuaIs was analyzed by the index of relative impoItance (IRl) which deals with numerical, gravimetrical and frequency of occurrence.Cichla l11onoculus showed a strong pisc ivorous habits feeding on Cichlidae, Characidae and Pimelodidae, in decreas ing order of importance, with a remarkable cannibalism on yo ung-ot~the-year.Others minor items in the diet were Mac/'obrachium sp. and Odonata.Changes in feeding composition varied with reservoir's zones and seasons, with higher diversity in Autumn and peaks of cannibalism in lower zone during Spring/SlIl11l11er.Overall, only one third of fi sh species composition in the reservo ir are predated by C. lIlol1oculus.Condition làctor (k) and fllllness index varied close ly with higher val ues in lower zone, and lower records in Winter.
