ResumoThe i.r. spectrum of t-butyldichlorophosphine was recorded on a solid film in the range (400–3000 cm−1). Infrared spectra of t-butylphosphonic dichloride and t-butylthiophosphonic dichloride were obtained in the same range on Nujol and Halocarbon mulls. Far i.r. spectra for all three compounds were recorded for Nujol mulls in the range 400–33 cm−1. Raman displacements are reported (Δv = 100–3000 cm−1) for t-butyldichloro-phosphine and the thio derivative in the solid state and for the oxy and thio derivatives in carbon tetrachloride and carbon disulfide solutions. Polarization measurements are also reported. Assignments are given consistent with (C3, symmetry for the skeletal framework. The spectral data indicate that the vibrations associated with the t-butyl group follow C3v symmetry. Values of the fundamental frequencies are compared with those of the related fluorophosphines, (CH3CPF2, (CH3)3CPOF2, (CH3)3CPSF2, all recently obtained.
