ResumoExploring the reasons for the banning of the 1950 civil rights film No Way Out (Joseph L. Mankiewicz) in the North, this article interrogates the tenets and parameters of race within the white liberal consensus in the United States at the start of the 1950s. These liberal ideas come to light and come under critique in the emerging discourse of community politics within the black public sphere.
