ResumoThin aluminum foils have been irradiated with 0.35 μm, 2 nsec (FWHM) laser pulses focused to a spot diameter of 80 μm. The dynamics of the targets was dominated by axial and lateral rarefactions. These led to premature target burnthrough and disrupted the ablative acceleration process.
