Sarcoma Diagnosis and Treatment

AS OFTEN happens in dermatology, to the confusion of those who are beginning the study of this specialty, the cutaneous disease which I shall discuss in this paper is known by a large number of names. In Germany, for instance, it has been called fibrosarcoma (Virchow), fusocellular fibrosarcoma (Unna), fibroblastic sarcoma or sarcomatous fibroma (Zurhelle) and tuberous or protuberant fibrosarcoma or dermatofibrosarcoma (Hoffmann). In France it is described as progressive and recidivous dermatofibroma of Darier and Ferrand and fibrosarcoma of the skin. 1 Hertzler 2 has also described this disease under the name of sarcoma of the skin. These tumors have been described by Bezecny 3 as dermatofibrosis protuberans et progrediens. McMaster 4 has named them sarcomatoid fibroma of the skin, and Mosto 5 has called them neuroma or dermatoschwannoma.
