Resumo

The 2013 Region 5 Soil Judging Contest, hosted by Missouri State University in Springfield, MO from Sept. 16–20, 2013. Seven teams competed (South Dakota State University, University of Minnesota, University of Nebraska, Kansas State University, Iowa State University, University of Missouri, and Missouri State University), and students competed individually and as a team. The schools were then ranked overall based on both individual and team scores. Schools ranking in the top three overall will participate in the national contest. Below are the placements: Kansas State placed first overall. Keeling, (l to r): Matti Kuykendall (assistant coach) and Mickey Ransom (coach). Row 1 (holding individual and team awards, l to r): Michelle Busch, Erin Bush, Dorothy Menefee, Kyle Stropes, and Reed Koop. Rows 2 and 3 (l to r): Holly Laughlin, Garrison Gundy, John Bergkamp, Jessica Barnett, Evelyn Nordberg, Jeffrey Albers, and Christina Wilson. The University of Missouri took first in team competition (l to r): Kerry Clark (coach), Molly Pershing, Morgan Schmalz, Michael Hogan, Nicholas Cuchetti, and Christopher Wynn. The top 10 individual winners (l to r): Zach Straatmann (10th), Abel Castor (9th), Eric Shilling (5th), Erin Bush (3rd), Jordan Henderson (2nd), Clayton Lee (presenter), Michelle Busch (1st), Dorothy Menefee (8th), Tom Lawler (7th), Elizabeth Milan (6th), and Rachel Stevens (4th).
