Resumo

American missionaries and educators were founders of Methodist schools and churches in Brazil, between the second half of the nineteenth century and the first decades of the twentieth century; they had as mission the establishment of Protestant civilization, habits and customs in any country chosen as field for sowing the Word of God.In addition, the Methodist civilizing project planned to reach the soul of children through a magazine aimed at them: the Bem-te-vi Magazine.The purpose of this article is to understand the construction and dissemination of child image printed on the pages of the Magazine.The results obtained show the Methodist plans to establish a civilized childhood and the practices undertaken in this direction.
