The ALOHA System, an experimental UHF radio computer communication network, was developed at the University of Hawaii, 1970-76_ In this survey paper, we give a general overview of packet communication techniques applied to computer networks.Then we discuss the concept of packet broadcasting and give a short description of the ALOHANET.Next, a discussion of the application of ALOHA techniques to satellite communications is presented.Finally, a short survey of present-day research and development efforts in packet broadcasting is presented.
