ResumoContemporary imaging technologies mirror the technological revolution that we are currently experiencing. Changes in technological capabilities are occurring faster than medical research can investigate and establish ‘evidence-based’ practices. Indications for newer and more technologically sophisticated imaging procedures are multiplying. Since most new technologies are applied initially to the adult population and subsequently adapted to the pediatric population, accepted pediatric indications frequently lag significantly behind their adult counterparts. The purpose of this review is to describe contemporary ways to image the pediatric chest, using newer technologies in an appropriate cost-effective and time-effective manner. Furthermore, imaging according to the ‘as low as reasonably achievable’ radiation dose principles is of utmost importance in contemporary pediatric imaging. This review will attempt to address recent advances in the major types of imaging technologies as they apply to pediatric che...
