Resumo

In Ti-stabilized interstitial-free (IF) steels, TiS and Ti[sub 4]C[sub 2]S[sub 2] have been found to dominate the precipitation process in the temperature range 1,300 C to 1,000 C. In this current work, Ti[sub 4]C[sub 2]S[sub 2] and TiS have been found to coexist within the same precipitate, forming a sandwich-like composite particle. This particle has an inner layer of Ti[sub 4]C[sub 2]S[sub 2] and two outer layers of TiS. In addition, the proportion of these layers in any given composite particle has been found to vary with processing condition. A detailed discussion of these observations will be presented in a later publication. The purpose of this paper is to describe a few examples of the internal structure and the orientation relationship found between Ti[sub 4]C[sub 2]S[sub 2] and TiS inside the sandwich-like composite particles.
