Hannah Poling was diagnosed with encephalopathy caused by a mitochondrial enzyme deficit. Her parents believed that vaccines had triggered her encephalopathy, and they sued the Department of Health and Human Services for compensation under the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program and won.
