Resumo

A prototype, batch operated, farm-scale ethanol production plant was analyzed with respect to the steam energy requirements associated with its operation. Of primary concern was the energy inputs to the distillation stage under different operating conditions. Regression equations were developed to predict the effects of: (a) center stripper temperature; and (b) corn-beer ethanol concentration on distillation energy requirements. The importance of reflux is discussed with respect to the required number of separation plates in the distillation tower.
