ResumoLevels of 43Sc below an excitation energy of 5 MeV have been studied using the 43Ca(τ, t)43Sc reaction. Up to an energy of about 3 MeV, most of the levels populated strongly are those assigned to the (fp)3 configuration. Known even-parity states and most 5p-2h states are very weakly excited. The transition to the isobaric analogue of the 43Ca ground state shows a characteristic L = 0 angular distribution. Angular distributions with a backward peaking provide support for suggested assignments for the lowest if 192−and152− (fp)3 states. The identification of the previously unknown 132−and172− members is also suggested from these results The wide variety of shapes observed in other transitions indicates that the angular distributions reflect nuclear structure effects as well as the spin change involved.
