Resumo

Some time around 1750, Louis XV and Madame de Pompadour terminated their love affair. Her delicate health and “cold” temperament had for years interfered with her sexual relationship with the King. Late in 1749 there was talk about moving her apartments to a less accessible though equally elegant section of the palace. The extensive work of redecoration was carried out in the following months and she was permanently installed in her new suite by 1751.1 The King's eye had begun to wander, settling for short periods of time on a variety of pretty young women. None of these affairs amounted to very much, however, and the influence of Madame la Marquise de Pompadour was increased, rather than diminished, during these years.2
