Resumo

A record of the activity of Parícutin Volcano, Michoacán, Mexico, covering the period April 1 to July 31, 1947, is shown in the diagram of eruptive characteristics, Figure 1, and the area covered by lava is shown in the map, Figure 2. An explanatory discussion of the diagram of eruptive characteristics is given in the first report of the present series [see “References” at end of paper, Wilcox, 1947a]. Discontinuity of data of Figure 1 for June and July is caused by weather conditions that made observations less continuous than usual. Preliminary study of the data does not seem to show a consistent correlation of the activity of Parícutin Volcano with barometric pressure, tide‐producing force, or local earthquakes during the period April 1 to July 31, 1947. During a few intervals the most intense pyroclastlc activity corresponded to high barometric pressures, and a suggestion of correlation with tide‐producing force occurred April 16 to 27 when the intensity of the eruption rose and fell, often with the rise and fall of tide‐producing force. Definite conclusions must await a thorough analysis of all the data.
