Resumo

The mathematical model of a Barber-pole magnetoresistive sensor is introduced and analysed. The non-uniform current flow and non-homogeneous demagnetizing field are accounted for. The dependence of resistance and mean direction of current flow on the sensor dimensions (width and thickness of Permalloy and shorting paths) is computed. Optimum dimensions, leading to maximum sensitivity, are determined for single- and multi-path magnetoresistors. The influence of the bias field on the transfer function hysteresis is investigated experimentally for two sensors types: Barber-pole sensor and a sensor with 45° inclination of the paths with respect to the anisotropy axis.
