C., during the fall and winter of 1962 to 1963 there occurred an outbreak of cases of erythema multiforme and erythema nodosum. An epidemiologic investigation provided evidence that histoplasmosis was the cause. A description of the clinical and epidemiologic features of this unusual epidemic forms the basis of this report.Greenwood is located in west central South Carolina. Its major industry is textile manufacturing. The population of the city itself is approximately 20,000; that of Greater Greenwood is 39,000.MATERIALS AND METHODSThe epidemic was well under way before it was recognized as such.
