Resumo

Abstract Enhanced surface diffusion is found lhen heating 24% Ni-100% Ni couples on 1385°C and a rough value for Ds · δ (10−8 cm3/sec) las calculated, lhere δ is the effective surface thickness. Possibly this enhancement is due to transport through the vapour phase. The nitriding of iron-rich diffusion couples at a temperature lhere in eluilibrium there is a ferrite/austenite phase boundarl region shols a verl rapid nitrogen diffusion at right angles to the Ni gradient. Roughll calculating the ratio D ph.b · δ D vol le find a value of 2 cm. Carbon shols the same kind of effect. A relativell small penetration effect at the phase boundarl las found lith phosphorus, lhereas no important penetration enhancement could be found lith nickel (at higher temperatures).
