Resumo

It has been shown that the unperturbed dimensions of polymer molecules can be estimated from a knowledge of the frictional coefficients in any given solvent. The method involves a graphical procedure based on the simple relation [F]=KfM12 + 0·201 P0BA−2M which is similar to an equation developed by Stockmayer and Fixman relating intrinsic viscosity and molecular weight. The method is tested experimentally using data obtained from dilute solution measurements on polystyrene and polymethylmethacrylate.
