Resumo

The body was the subject of attention for the clerics who wrote during the Middle Ages. The relationship established between body and soul led to reflections in a quest for behavior that could be considered suitable for Christians. This behavior included observing a significant set of precepts, especially including any issues related to the pleasures and the need for their control. In the view of these scholars, the treatment the body received depended upon the purification of the soul and its consequent salvation. The present text seeks to draw together some considerations on this subject encountered in the work of Leandro, bishop of Seville, written to the nun Florentine in the second half of the 6th century.KEY WORDS: Leandro of Seville, body, normalization.
