ResumoAbstract [Ir(CO) 2 I 3 Me] − reacts with carboxylic acids or hydrogen (but not with mineral acids) at elevated temperature to cleave the iridium(III)–methyl bond liberating methane; a cyclic transition state is proposed for the reactions with RCOOH.
