The Mentadent Adaptor is a novel toothbrush developed to gently deliver excellent oral health benefits combining optimal plaque control with oral hard and soft tissue care. It has outer tufts individually mounted in an elastomer to allow flexibility under toothbrushing pressures, enabling adaptation to the surface contours of the oral cavity. These unique properties could not be measured using conventional methods and therefore, oral metrology, a new technique that enables microscopic changes in both soft and hard tissue to be quantified, was used to determine the effect of the toothbrush, in combination with toothpastes of different abrasivity, on soft and hard tissues. A further study compared the performance of the Mentadent Adaptor at maintaining gingival health with that of an internationally recognised toothbrush. It was concluded that the Mentadent Adaptor tooth brush is effective at maintaining oral health, and offers a measurable advantage over an internationally recognised toothbrush at reducing gingival bleeding and plaque accumulation. Furthermore it is potentially kinder to the hard and soft oral tissues. Le Mentadent Adaptor est une nouveauté en matière de brosse à dents, conçue afin d'offrir d'excellents avantages sur le plan de la santé bucco-dentaire, en combinant un contrôle optimal de la plaque et les soins des tissus bucco-dentaires durs et mous. Il comprend des faisceaux extérieurs, individuellement montés dans un élastomère, qui laissent une certaine flexibilité sous les pressions du brossage, permettant ainsi l'adaptation aux contours de la surface de la cavité buccale. Ces propriétés uniques ne pourraient pas être mesurées par des méthodes conventionnelles et donc la métrologie bucco-dentaire, nouvelle technique qui permet de quantifier les changements infimes survenant dans les tissus durs et mous, a été utilisée pour déterminer l'effet sur les tissus mous et durs de la brosse à dents, combinée à des pâtes dentifrices avec divers pouvoirs d'abrasion. Une autre étude comparait la performance du Mentadent Adaptor sur le plan du maintien de la santé gingivale avec celle d'une brosse à dents de renommée internationale. On en a conclu que la brosse à dents Mentadent Adaptor contrôlait avec efficacité la santé bucco-dentaire et offrait un avantage léger, mais mesurable par rapport à la brosse à dents reconnue au niveau international en matière de réduction du saignement gingival et de l'accumulation de la plaque. Par ailleurs, cette brosse est potentiellement moins dangereuse pour les tissus durs et mous. Da Sondereigenschaften dieser Art anhand konventioneller Methoden nicht meßbar wären, wurde die Oralmetrologie, eine neue Technik zur Quantifizierung mikroskopisch kleiner Veränderungen sowohl im Hart- als auch Weichgewebe herangezogen, um so die Wirkung der Mentadent Adaptor in Verbindung mit Zahnpasten mit unterschiedlichen Abrasionseigenschaften auf Weich- und Hartgewebe zu bestimmen. In einer weiteren Studie wurde ihre Leistung in bezug auf den Erhalt der gingivalen Gesundheit mit der einer international anerkannten Zahnbürste verglichen. Ergebnis: die Mentadent Adaptor leistet einen effektiven Beitrag zur Erhaltung der Mundgesundheit und weist außerdem einen zwar geringen, jedoch meßbaren Vorteil im Vergleich mit der international anerkannten Zahnbürste auf, da sie Zahnfleischbluten und Plaquebildung reduziert und eine potentiell sanftere Wirkung auf die harten/weichen Oralgewebe ausübt. En otro estudio se comparó el desempeño del Adaptador Mentadent, en el mantenimiento de la salud gingival, con otro cepillo de diente de una marca internacional conocida. Se llegó a la conclusión que el Adaptador Mentadent es efectivo para la salud bucodental y que ofrece una pequeña, aunque mensurable ventaja sobre un cepillo de dientes internacionalmente conocido, para reducir el sangrado gingival y la acumulación de placa.
