Abstract Peptidyl α,β-unsaturated nitro compounds were found to be active-site directed irreversible inhibitors of serine protease, α-chymotrypsin. The inactivation was selective because tripeptidyl derivative 4 did not show any irreversible inhibitory activity toward another serine protease, procine pancreatic elastase.
