ResumoAlthough shearers have been the heroes of the Australian labour movement's most enduring legends, here John Merritt argues that their reputation as militants has been greatly exaggerated. Based on union and pastoralists' records, this book is a comprehensive account of the events that produced the legends and offers many challenges to the historiography of the 1890s.
