Resumo

In the article the editor discusses how the North American H1N1 influenza reminds him of the book The Tartar Steppe, by Dino Buzzati. He warns the U.S. of the hazards involved in extreme preparation for an influenza strain that my evolve. He comments that public health authorities, politicians and first line responders may become the victims if the influenza pandemic does not materialize.
