Resumo

A considerable literature has already developed around the effects of airline deregulation in Canada. After nearly a decade, however, the industry is experiencing a severe crisis, unforeseen by the policy makers. Whilst deregulation exposed Canadian airlines to market forces operating at a supranational level, the very geography of the Canadian market, as well as policy and airline management factors, has played a key role in precipitating this outcome and in prejudicing the competitiveness of the Canadian airlines, particularly in the international sphere.
