ResumoAbstract Abstract Modern and fossil pollen of Beilschmiedia and related species of Lauraceae in New Zealand are described and illustrated. A study of the modern pollen rain within Beilschmiedia tawa stands indicates that this species is a major "blind spot" in the history of New Zealand forests. This calls into question previous identifications of the pollen type in geologic studies.
