ResumoOn the chromosome number in Solanaceae, many detailed studies have been hitherto made. The writers' observations in the same family confirm in general the results of the previous investigations. Some of the features differ, however, from the results already reported, and a few data new to science are added. The seeds of Plzysalis Alkekengi and P. angulala L. were kindly supplied by the Tokyo Koishikawa Botanical Garden and of the species of Datura by the Hygienic Laboratory of Tokyo, and all other plants were raised from commercial seeds. The number of choromosomes was counted in pollen mother cells and root-tips of the seedlings. The material was fixed either in FLEMMING's solution, BONN modification of the same, or CARNOY'S fluid.NAVASHIN'S solution was also used in some cases.Sections were cut in Io-12,u thick by usual paraffine method and stained with HEIDENHAIN'S iron alum haematoxylin.
