Resumo

Cellulose acetate phthalate is soluble in buffer solutions at pH values as low as 6. It has therefore found a use in the enteric coating field. Addition of plasticizers improves the water resistance of the ester. Enteric coatings of such compositions are more effective than when the ester alone is used. Aqueous solutions can be prepared by treating the acetate phthalate with bases such as sodium hydroxide or triethanolamine.
