ResumoSteady-state process simulation is used to study a xylene recovery loop in a large aromatics plant. The process configuration follows closely that of Mobil's aromatics facility in Naples, Italy. The simulation includes rigorous tower calculations and specially written subroutines for unique process components. Process questions examined are the optimal cycle length for isomerization catalyst, the value of ethylbenzene recovery, and the preferred process configuration.
