Resumo

The incorporation of [3 H]uridine into the cytoplasm and the nuclei of the motor neurons of the spinal cord of control mice and mice given whole-body X-irradiation was studied with the use of radioautography. A decrease in isotope incorporation into the cell cytoplasm as well as into the nuclei 0.5-4 h after irradiation was observed. At 8 and 12 h after irradiation, the intensity of [3 H]uridine incorporation into the nuclei increased, whereas the radioactivity of the cytoplasm of the motor neurons of mice in these experimental groups remained lower than the appropriate control values. It appears possible that ionizing radiation inhibits the RNA synthesis in the nuclei of the motor neurons.
