Resumo

The static electric quadrupole moments Q2+ of the first 2+ states of 106Cd and 114Cd were measured by the reorientation effect, using a particle-γ coincidence technique. The attenuation of the γ-ray angular distribution due to the hyperfine interaction was measured and its effect found to be important for the determination of the quadrupole moments. The values of Q2+ obtained range from −0.63 b to −0.99 b for 106Cd and from −0.21 b to −0.52 b for 114Cd. The measured value for 114Cd is 46 % of the value obtained without accounting for the hyperfine attenuation.
