ResumoThe three-dimensional crystal structure of an artificial linear paraffin wax with a near Gaussian distribution of chain lengths and known polydispersity (Mw/Mn) of 1.003 was determined from electron diffraction intensity data. The average structure resembles the paraffin n-C35H72 in its orthorhombic B-polymorph, space group A21am, where a = 7.42, b = 4.96, c = 92.86 Å. A distribution of fractional methylene group occupancies near the chain ends is suggested by the falloff of I(00l) but a more accurate vacancy model can be found from the known chain distribution of this wax.
